Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry

Speaker: Dr. Kenneth Chow, Certified Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Bio: Dr. Kenneth Chow is a Certified Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who provides the full scope of surgical treatment for the oral-facial complex in Vancouver, Burnaby and Richmond. Dr. Chow completed his dental education at the University of Southern California in 1992. He was then accepted to a 4 year residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola Medical Centre in Chicago. He completed the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program in 1996 and returned to his hometown, Vancouver to provide Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical treatment. He is involved in many related activities: teaching at UBC Dental School, teaching at study clubs and continuing education courses, mentoring a Study Club, and involved in the College of Dental Surgeons of BC.

Description: The general concept of Artificial intelligence (AI) and its use in everyday life will be reviewed. For dentistry, this will be a revolutionary and evolutionary change. AI can be used in patient management, radiology assessment, treatment options, and monitoring of patient outcomes. AI will be able to standardize and optimize dental care. Patients may be evaluated at home and obtain dental care before conditions worsen. AI can also assist in educating the next generation of dentists. (1.5 credit hours)
