Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Thanks to all who participated in our recent VDDS Midwinter Clinic held on December 9th at the Westin Bayshore Hotel... our excellent guest speakers, a record 67exhibitors, and attending dentists, CDA's, hygienists and students. This year's event was chaired by Dr. Esther Tam and Dr. Joy Maru, with remaining members of the VDDS Board of Directors volunteering as hosts to our guest speakers. We always enjoy the participation of the Vancouver Community College Dental Hygiene students as well, who provide a wide array of interesting hygiene Table Clinics at the event. During the past couple of years, there has been a "judging panel" for the table clinics, with the winning students being treated to the Festive Luncheon!
New at the 2011 Clinic was our inaugural Silent Auction, chaired by board director Dr. Vivian Chow, with Robyn McCorquodale, VDDS' p/t Communications Manager. The proceeds of the auction will enhance the Ludlow Beamish Award for Ethics, which is presented to a third year UBC dental student each season, and assist with funding for special audiovisual needs.
Our thanks to all donors and bidders for making this effort a success!
With Robyn now away from the office for the next few months (that vocal and piano talent you enjoyed at the Christmas Luncheon will be entertaining in the Caribbean and South America)... we'll keep you posted on her itinerary and musical adventures in the weeks to come.

An Exciting Fall and Winter Season!

The city is now in full autumn bloom as we prepare for our second lecture of the season, taking place this Monday, November 7 at The Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel. VDDS is proud to feature Dr. John F. Weston (DDS, FAACD) speaking on “Clinical Innovation & Technology.” This is a rare opportunity to experience a presentation that focuses on highly specialized and advanced technology within our industry. Immediately following this unique and engaging session on Monday, will be a special presentation at 3:45pm, given by one of our Partners in Education, Nicola Wealth Management. Join Guest Speakers Murray Neilson, Mark Therriault and CA, Ken Morrison in this informative talk on “Building Wealth Requires More Than Just Investing.” This complimentary session includes refreshments and requires pre-registration. Our annual Midwinter Clinic is just a little over a month away. Taking place Friday, December 9 at the pristinely located Westin Bayshore, we are excited to report that attendee registration is up and all exhibitor booths are now fully booked. Great news for this year’s UBC graduates who participated in the BCDA New Member Orientation Course. VDDS is pleased to inform you that the BCDA Board of Directors has approved a pilot project to encourage component society involvement. Each 2011 UBC graduate who attended the New Member Orientation Course delivered by the BCDA on Monday, May 9, 2011, will receive $250 towards membership or a continuing education course with VDDS. To receive this grant, contact Karen Power at Karen@bcdental.org with proof of membership or CE registration.
